Random Access Memories felt massive in 2013. Layered and unapologetically analog. The drumless edit strips it down in a way that’s kind of genius, scratching a post-robot itch. Without the drums driving the tracks forward, you start hearing the architecture underneath - the little guitar breaths by Nile Rodgers, the vocal pursuits of Pharrell. It suddenly leans towards a new genre. Tracks like Touch and Beyond feel fragile, more human. It’s like seeing the scaffolding of a masterpiece and realizing new beauty in the original all along. There is so much lore in the creation of this album, much of which is outlined in The Collaborators Memory Tapes. “It feels like the only click-track they had was the human heartbeat.” - Pharrell
